Back On Track

(But maybe with a new direction…)

Okay, so the book is going much slower than anticipated, but the longer I wait, the more I think it needs.  That is alright, I think.  I want it to mature into a good book.  In the mean time, still working on the degree, but thinking very seriously about shifting focus to work more with the photography, short fiction and nonfiction.  That means journalism, photoshop and digital photography classes.

Physically, photography and journalism would be better for me, as I would be out and about instead of just sitting in front of the computer all day.  Also, it would get me out of my comfort zone, and make me engage the real world, and thereby, make me learn more about the real world.  Believe me, I already have a healthy imagination.  Also, books can be written around PAYING gigs.  Keyword is paying.

I LOVE taking pictures and telling people about them, and I love being out in nature.  I’m still learning my way around the whole travel thing, but the more I learn, the more I like it.  I love meeting people, but seem to need the kind of push that having an actual assignment would give me.

Okay, so I’m just throwing up on the keyboard here, but writing helps me think.  Also putting all of this out there may help someone else in a similar situation.  There really is a lot to learn about the writing world, so much that finding one’s place in it may be the hardest part of getting started.

But then it took me forty years to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.  I still feel like hedging my bets, but I need a direction or I’ll just keep spinning my wheels, so for the moment it’s short work, build a body of work, earn that degree and find a way to make money in writing and/or photography.
