Our Pygmy (Micro Story)

Sam and I were playing chess at the bottom of the waterfall on the red and white checked blanket with our granddaughter Sarah who was four. We’d had a wonderful lunch, and he’d told her how the trout sometimes swam over the waterfall into the water below. We watched the water for a long time, hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the glistening fish, when I saw out of the corner of my eye, one of our pygmy bananas inching its way across the blanket. Sensing she’d been caught, Sarah looked at the blanket and said, “they’re just my size.”
